Profile of Richard Hansen
Richard Hansen has an outstanding record of farrier knowledge and skills and has been recognized for these achievements. He has been operating as a full time professional farrier since 1989. In that time he has worked with several veterinarians in North Queensland and now works extensively with Samford Valley Veterinary Hospital.
He is a strong believer in professional development and has attended numerous clinics and seminars including – Bluegrass Laminitis Symposium (USA), American Farriers Convention, Bain Fallon Vet/Farrier conferences and dozens of various clinics throughout Australia. He has organized Vet/Farrier workshops and has been a recognized clinician and presenter throughout Australia and New Zealand. Richard has also lectured final year veterinarian students at University of Queensland as part of their curriculum.
Richard is actively involved in the farrier industry and has served as Queensland and National President of the Australian Farriers and Blacksmiths Association inc. (2003-2006)
Richard continues to compete in national and international Farrier Competitions. He has been awarded the national & Australian high point award and has won the high point award in every state of Australia where competitions are held. He has also been one of the only Australians to be placed in the top 10 finals at the World Championship Blacksmith Competition in 2003 held in Calgary, Canada. He has been appointed judge for many farrier competitions in both Australia and New Zealand.
Richard has a special interest in therapeutic work and has been developing methods of providing mechanical support for the laminitic horse and other lameness conditions through various applications combining forging skills with modern day materials. |
